With so many new Marvel books and changes being made, they're all gonna be great, right? Well, no. Not really. Here's a look at the hits and misses of the Marvel Universe

Hits:
Exiles - best superhero book. period

X-Statix - a very well written book. Another must. Interesting to see it go to the MK line

Punisher - Why aren't more people reading this? Garth Ennis can do no wrong

Cable/Deadpool - you got one guy who is whacked and another who is far from. This is gonna be great

Hulk - I think the shift to the MK line will do much justice. Looking forward to the Iron Man duel

Misses:
Emma Frost - I liked the fact that the first arc, she was young and finding herself, but know it has gone on long enough. I'm not big on stuff that like watching the O.C or other tv crap. This title should be wicked. Boost to Emma as now. Needs Re-direction

MK 4 - Good Ideas can sometime make for boring stories. F4 bankrupt? Interesting thought, but no bloody likely. I have no idea what they're gonna do with this book. So far un-fantastic

Iron Fist - craptacullar

She-Hulk - read above

Alpha Flight - I like lobdell, I like the old Alpha Flight. So why are things going so very wrong

XMEN RELOADED- Im gonna miss Morrison, and I actually started liking the 'normal' costumes very much. Don't go back to the originals. Not just yet ( that and half of them are ugly as hell).

Um I realize that people want to do some quickie reviews and such. And I've asked about how to go about doing them, but this isn't even close to the outline that Matt posted... Did you even look at the guidelines?

Canucks like me hate it because it says absolutely nothing about our country, our character, our passions. It reads like Lobdell has never stepped foot in the Great White North, relying mostly on stero-types to define his characters.

For starters, here are some themes that he could had explored that would at least gotten the attention of Canadian readers:

1) Canada's love-hate relationship with Americans and it's inherent inferiority complex being neighbors to a country that dominates it's economy, values, and pop culture. I suspect New Zealanders can relate to this.

2) What are the differences between Canadians and Americans? Contrary to Homer Simpson, Canada is not America Jr! Hell Matt Groening's dad, the real life Homer, is a Canuck! Would mutants be treated differently in Marvel Canada? This could be analogus to the Vietnam draft dodgers.

3) Canada's passion for hockey, curling, Tim Horton's coffee, beer, poutine, and the CFL. Ok the CFL passion has declined since the NFL invaded our airwaves 30 years ago. But still, here are uniquely Canadian ideas.

As for the rest of the world, why would they be interested in Alpha Flight? The characters are really cookie cutter and bland. There's nothing unique about them that would interest the rest of the world.

I second that. I'd really prefer it if we kept things one book per thread.

Exiles - Havent read it, have no interset what so ever.

X-Statix - The next story line looks very promising. Consistant quality. (Even if Allerd skips a few issues here and there.)

Punisher - "Hehehe, I said poop". That what I think of any and everytime I read stuff by Ennis. Gore for the sake of gore, 'fuck' for the sake of 'fuck.

Cable/Deadpool - No way in hell its gonna last, though. Maybe launch there new books, perhaps....

Hulk - See Exiles

Emma Frost -See Hulk. I've never liked Frost. Especially after what Morrison has done with her, I find her ever more unlikeable.

Iron Fist - Not too big on Marvels 70's stuff, so I have no interst in it.

MK 4- Have you read it? Trust me, it makes sense on the way its done. Its the most human super hero story in a LONG while. .

She-Hulk - A little un-even, I'll admit, but it has SOOOO much potenital to be an A-list book. I truly think so.

Alpha Flight - See Hulk

XMEN RELOADED- THIS HASNT EVEN COME OUT YET!!! We dont know what up what his faces sleeve (his name has escaped me at the moment...)

See if you can get this moved to the 'regular' talk@ section, 'cause that is where this belongs, no offense.

And welcome to talk@!!

Yeah, but he's new, so give him a break. we all make mistakes. Sure, some larger than others, but it happens.

come on....you gotta try this book out. this has been the best Punisher story in years. it can be gratuitous at times, but theres also a very interesting story at play here.

Ennis is one of my favorite creators, but has also done some TERRIBLE individual comics.

Goddess has to be one of the worst mini-series I've ever read.

Some of his War Stories were craptacular (but thats ok because MOST of them were amazing)

And about 1/3 of his Punisher work Pre-MAX was pretty poor (The one where the gangster gets eaten by the Giant Squid? His adventure in South America? Punisher and Wolverine vs. an army of midgets (Minus Wolverine getting Steamrolled, of course)?)

Other then that, Ennis tends to some amazing work. Preacher and Just a Pilgrim and his new Punisher series are and were dead on perfect.

I don't care what anyone ELSE here thinks---as far as I am concerned, She-Hulk is most definitely a HIT. I've waited a decade for Marvel to finally publish an ongoing comic of my favorite character, and this is better than I expected. Dan Slott is a writer who knows and understands Jennifer Walters better than I do, and that's saying a LOT!

Ever since John Byrne took away the She-Hulk's ability to change back into her human alter ego, Jen Walters, most writers who have written about her ever since have assumed that is the best way to approach her character. Dan Slott believes that when Jennifer made the decision to stay She-Hulk 24/7, she made a terrible decision and threw away an important part of her life. It was as if Billy Batson decided never to say "Shazam!" again and spend the rest of his life as Captain Marvel.

While the She-Hulk we are introduced to in issue #1 is a little more uninhibited and reckless than fans are used to seeing, her behavior is not unprecedented. She did similar stuff like this early in her career with the Avengers. And it sets up the premise of the book remarkably well---Jen gets evicted from the mansion and fired from her "day job" as prosecutor in the District Attorney's office. Later she gets hired by the most prestigious law firm in the country, but there's one catch---she must report to her new job in her human form and not the She-Hulk.

Although this is a comedy, Dan Slott takes the character of She-Hulk very seriously. Even when we laugh at some of the things Jen does, we never lose our sympathy for this character. I sincerely hope this book catches on and has a much longer run than the 12 issues it is currently allotted, but in the meantime I intend to enjoy every single issue!

Folks - sorry to take the strongarm stance here, but I'm locking this thread. As explained in the rules, each new thread should cover one comic, to make it easy for people to browse the forum.
