This should be fun, what's the first DC comic you remember buying? (oops thread title should read "remember" not "rember" doh!)
This is the first Batman comic I remember buying. From this point on I was hooked. A kid...was new to a neighborhood, I remember walking out of a corner store (which was my soon-to-be comic buying outlet) a school mate of mine asked me: "hey, what comic did you buy?". I sheepishly said "er... Batman". He said "Cool!!", "I think so too!" I replied! B)
The rest is history. :)
BATMAN #318

I read some Superman,Batman,Flash and other comics before that but that was definitely the first one that I paid for.

Captain Carrot and his Amazing Zoo Crew #19 (http://www.comics.org/details.lasso?id=37732) (1983) featuring Frogzilla. (Now that I think of it, I have a history of picking up series right before they get cancelled.)
I subsequently discovered The New Teen Titans (oddly enough, not through the crossover in the following issue, but through one of the drug awareness freebies that they handed out at a county fair), which got me into the DC Universe.

I think I may have Chap beat on the "First Batman Villain was a Loser" front. Here's my earliest comic memory:
http://www.comics.org/graphics/covers/141/400/141_4_000000401.jpg
This one stands out for me because the lettercol has an angry rant about about the Crisis. The fan is outraged that DC expects him/her to forget about those earlier stories and can't believe they killed off Batman and Robin. As an 8-year-old, I found this really confusing, as I just finished reading about Batman!
A close second earliest book was an issue of the "Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow?", also from 86. My Dad bought it for me to read on a family trip. I remember it being a real head trip and depressing, and I must have thrown it out shortly after reading it because I hated it.
I also though the Knight's Inn we stayed at was the pinnacle of class, which proves that I was a really dumb kid :(

I can't remember the issue number, but the first DC title I distinctly remember buying was a Batman title where Catwoman had brainwashed him into thinking he was Catman.

Batman 426-429 The Death in the Family storyline.
Had the concept of fans voting on if Robin (Jason Todd) should die.
Fans voted and Joker beat him to death with a crowbar.
Then Superboy Prime punched the time wall, a recount was done, and JT wasn't supposed to dit after all.

I was given piles and piles of early '80's X-Men and Teen titans comics to read by my older cousins when I was a wee girl, but I didn't actually start buying until about 2 years ago, when I bought the first trade paperback of Geoff Johns run on Teen Titans.
My first single issue buy was Gotham Central 33: the beginning of the Dead Robin arc. I just loved that series to bits. So disappointed when it got cancelled 7 issues later!

If I remember right, it was this one:
http://www.comics.org/graphics/covers/1449/400/1449_4_123.jpg
I was very little (I must have been in Kindergarten, judging by the cover date), and was at a 5&10 store at the Jersey Shore looking futilely for a Batman comic. Some kid pointed out that Batman was in that one, and I was sold!
BTW, the story was trippy as hell, involving Multiple Earths and the characters interacting with the creators of the book, years before Grant Morrison, Infinite Crisis and Countdown. In my day, we didn't bitch about the multiverse, we just kept our mouths shut and got really confused.

Did it really have that Whitman logo in place of DC? I remember those! Three random comics stuck in a plastic bag, at a bargain price! You couldn't tell what the one in the middle was unless you sort of pulled back the pages of the top one through the plastic. What could be more fun?

I can't really remember but it was a Superman comic from the mid 90s maybe. I can't remember the details of the issue but I do remember the last page was Supes opening his shower curtain to see Mr. Mxtyplk (I can't remember how that's spelled) showering there. Does anyone know what issue and title this is because I'd be interested in tracking it down someday. Beyond that I can't remember buying any other issues until I really got sucked into Batman and DC with this:

My earliest DC comics were random issues of Superman and Detective or Batman from the early '70s. My memories of them are vague (like that Riddler was in one of the Batman stories, and either Batman or Robin was put in a tomb) and I've never been able to track down the specific issues since.
The earliest DC comics I have very specific memories of (and for the most part, either still own or have re-aquired), are some of the giant Treasury Editions. Origins of Super-Villains, a couple Batman Treasury Editions, Superman vs. Spider-Man, and Superman vs. the Flash.

Hey, you must be around the same age as me! I actually bought my own subscription to that series using birthday money, and the issues would show up each month in my mailbox in those thin brown paper covers that they used to use for all subscription books. I subscribed to other books (Amazing Spiderman, Hulk), but none for as long as ST (I kept getting them up until issue 68, I think).
There was something about the way that Tom Yeates drew Swamp Thing--and later Bisetter and Totleben--that fasinated my little kid brain. I used to sit around and try and copy pictures of him from the comics onto pieces of paper, and I'd listen to my parent's Thriller record at the same time.
Man, I haven't thought about that in a WHILE. :)

It was a very long time ago, I had actually started with Marvel and my older brother had been buying DC issues for a while before I ever picked up a comic - so it's hard to remember what the actual first DC title I shelled out 12 cents of my own for was, but I think it was Brave and the Bold #53 with the Flash and the Atom. If it wasn't that it was an issue of Adventure Comics from that same time period - my brother was buying Superman, Batman and JLoA at the time, so there was no need for me to. Plus 12 cents was a big deal to me at the time.

I remember going through the bottom rack of the comics at Perry drugs (now rite aid) one day and found this book. This issue HOOKED me, especially on Tim Drake as Robin. My money was spent hunting down issues with him after this. Batman done by breyfogle will always be my favorite as well

Got into comics pretty late ah 16/17. But I remembered my dad getting me hard cover animated series Batman book featuring Catwoman. Loved it and fell in love with the Batman mythos forever. Most original character ever. (Tony Stark was a parralel until WTF he now has a healinf factor, hated him after drink problems Civil War). But the first proper comic I read was No Mans Land (all as trade paperback), but I had borrowed it from I library. I bought Superman: Birthright. Hehehe Those were magic times back then. My exposure was literally the corner drug store, and I loved going in to look at the comics rack. There was always something surprising and full of wonder - Contest of Champions, Captain Carrot, Fury of Firestorm, etc. I remember agonizing over the decision of what to buy that first time; and though I can't recall the other choices, I remember that Swamp Thing won out because of the cover. I never regretted the decision. :D
