I've just gotten back into dragon ball z again and I really want to get the comics of it but I don't know where to start, should I start with dragon ball or just go straight to Z and am I missing much if I go straight to Z? I have never seen any dragon ball episodes but have seen all the Z ones so I am wondering does anyone know where I should start and does anyone know how many volumes of dragin ball there are and how many Z ones there are?
Thanks if ya can help.

My perception is skewed, but I believe Dragon Ball to be in every way superior to DBZ, so I'd say just start at the beginning.
It's not necesarry, ultimately, as 90% of the characters in Dragon Ball that aren't Piccolo or Goku get shafted in DBZ. But I think it's the superior incarnation anyway.

Dragon Ball is a rather fun series. DBZ is a bit of nose dive from Dragon Ball IMO. It goes from being an adventure show to a strait action show, losing a lot of it's fantasy spirit. So I'd say, yes, start with Dragon Ball.

Dragon Ball = Awesome!
DBZ = I loved it when i was 10...not so much anymore. repetitive plots, weak storylines.

Although I do like DBZ more I agree with the other posters, start with Dragonball. I cant wait til they come out with Dragonball seasons the way they are doing DBZ right now (minus the letterbox cropping of course).

Ok guess I'll start with dragon ball then, but how many volumes are there in dragon ball till Z starts? I think there are 17 or 18 DB volumes and 26 DBZ volumes am I right?

16 for Dragonball, 26 for DBZ.

Actually, when you're talking about the manga, there is no DBZ. It was all named "Dragon Ball", originally, all 42 volumes of it. Viz just called the second part of its translations DBZ, so the people attracted by the anime wouldn't be confused. So there are now 16 volumes titled "Dragon Ball" and then 26 volumes titled "Dragon Ball Z", but they're really just one series. Personally, I'd start at the beginning. I liked those early volumes.
