I've been wanting to check out Queen & Country for a while now. I like Greg Rucka and everything that I've picked up from Oni has been a worthwhile purchase, so I was just wondering what people who have read it have to say about it.

One day I'd like to get the hardcovers. I haven't read any of the actual comics, I've read both novels.
A Gentleman's Game is fabulous. The sequel, Private Wars was good, but Gentleman's Game had this edge to it that I found it to be a better story.

I've only read the 1st 2 trades, but in terms of Rucka's work I'd make these comparisons:
Queen and Country - The Good Shepherd
Checkmate - The Bourne Identity

What I've read about it I've really liked.

Q&C is Rucka's best comics work. If you've read his Whiteout minis, you should like this. The Q&C Declassified minis are also really good, however, I recommend reading them after you've gotten a flavor for the characters from the 1st few Q&C arcs. The 1st Declassified mini is a "sequel" to the 3rd Q&C arc, I believe (it's bee nawhile since I re-read the series).
They will probably read best in trade format. Issue #32 is finally being solicited for August. After that, the series will be relaunched as Volume 2, but no timeframe has been given for that.
Rucka has also mentioned that he has a new creator-owned series coming from Oni, but no details on it.

Hey Godfather,
Good luck tracking down all those HC's. They were limited to one print run and I had quite a hard time getting my hands on a couple of them. Oni still has many of them at their store, but for some reason #4 is tough to find.
If you plan to get them I'd start sooner than later, because they are totally worth it!

The new book is called Stumptown. Other than that we know pretty much nothing about it.

Oh and Queen & Country is awesome.
Frankly I think the book is better in prose than comics and for that reason I prefer the novels to the comics. But as a series the whole thing is absoluetly worth reading.
Issue #32 is going to be the last issue for quite a long time so enjoy it!

I have all the trades so far and love them all. Start at the start and go from there. Each arc has a different artist which helps give a different feel to each story, which range from action packed to the mundane, but all are excellent and show the different sides to life as a "spy".

So are the novels the same stories as the comics. If so I may check out the novels instead. If not I'll check 'em both out. I only ever read the novel Keeper by Rucka. That was years ago, but I liked it okay and wouldn't be opposed to picking up some more of his prose fiction.
I've been wanting to read Whiteout, too. It's just that both that and Q&C are low on my trades to buy list.
Interesting comparisons for Checkmate and Q&C. I didn't want to see The Good Sheppard at all and I kind of liked Bourne. I like Checkmate, too.

No they are not the same stories.

I have the first 3 trades and I like them. If you like spy/espionage without all the James Bond-fantasy stuff, you'll like Queen & Country.
On a Rucka related note, I want an Atticus Kodiak comic book!

Great series, like James Bond, but without the gadgets (which are fun, but sometimes a bit over the top): this is real world spy stuff.
I need to get the second novel, though, haven't read it yet.

The novels advance the existing story and are new material. The first novel takes place between volumes 7 & 8 of the comic series (8 is currently incomplete) and then the second novel is after volume 8 of the comic.
I wouldn't have enjoyed the novels as much without the comic back drop, but that being said I prefer that format.

Love this series very much. I came on it at issue #3 and have been hooked ever since. Have all the HCs too. Really sweet on the shelf with the 2 novels and the book plates. No question, this is Rucka's best stuff. Checkmate is good too, but it is a very light take compared to Q&C. I see #32 is in the newest previews again. August it is!
