As someone who didn't even read Annhilation (or even the Nova mini-series portion) I have to recommend this book highly to anyone reads this post. It's just excellent. I hate the Initiative and Back in Black and all that, but I gave this book a shot for the hell of it and it's sci-fi comics done right. Sean Chen's art is just a joy, and perfect for this title (I hope it's not one of those six issues and done deals) and while Abnett and Lanning don't usually stand out to me this book is a fantastic fit.

So, is she the first new member of the Corps or some sort of usurper? I look forward to finding out.
I'm not a huge fan of this cover though. The proportions are really weird, the plus the armor and the face look like they were drawn by two different artists.

It was an ok movie, I love Jet Li...but anyway, in that movie, he finds out that one evil alternate reality version of himself is going around and killing the others. Everytime he kills one, that one's powers are divided among the remaining. When it comes down to the evil one and the good one, they're REALLY powerful because they have half of the entire combined power of all their alternate reality counterparts. This is in a way what happened to Nova.
Here though, since he is trying to rebuild the Corps, it will go in reverse of the way it did in "The One". If the girl on the cover represents the first new Corpsperson, she and Nova will have half of the power he has now. I find this interesting because imagine the pressure of how Nova will choose these people (mostly early on). If he picks a bad person say 3rd, then that guy will have 1/3 of a LOT of power. This could lead to the inadvertant creation of some menace.
I really liked Annihilation, both the series and the prequel minis...and so far Nova isn't disappointing.

Rookies do. And, if Sinestro didn't know that the GL's were afraid of Yellow, why else would he choose such a Girly Coloured Ring, istead of seeking some other Power source? I mean, it's not as if the Moustache wasn't weird enough...

I agree with this but man its kinda annoying to me, its only 5 issues in which was right around when the new new GL corps were restarted this time around but at that same point its not like Hal was a uber powerful super being (kyle was though) I just dont like them basically wasting potential of the character if he is basically the most amped up person in the marvel U it automatically makes him a decent sized player in it.
However if he goes back to being some nub part of a series of corps he will be treated that way by marvel editorial.
And as much as I hate to say it because I do really like nova and the current story line, doesnt this entire story line feel a lil like when Kyle was the last GL and had to restart the corps/became ion the most powerful being ever, until he gave up some of his power to power jade.

Yeah, I'm with this sentiment. Of course not knowing what the cover really means, I would hate to see him as just another shlub on the bus to the Initiative boot camp around issue 20 or so when the corps has been fully rebuilt (making an ass out of u and me by assuming that's where the story is heading, that is).

I like the altered nova corps uniform that Nova is currently wearing, not so much on the old one. I like the fact that the balls of light on his chest light up/burn and just dont like the old yellow/gold ones.

I liked the first redesign that appeared in the Nova Annihilation mini, when he first took in the nova force. But Sean tweaked it a bit for the ongoing in such a fashion that I don't like it quite as much now (those funky swirly horns on his shoulders that spin out of the chest circles look a bit too accentuated now, imo).

Just a minor correction: the good Jet Li didn't have half the power. He had gotten a bit faster and stronger but it looked like regular "action movie" peak physical condition. That was part of the fun: the evil Jet Li was far stronger and faster. Obviously superhuman levels, unlike the good guy. Ah, the things I remember... :D

That was my first reaction as well, though I think it unlikely. That'd be the first part of the Annihilation II arc, and shouldn't she be Quasar at that point? I could see her becoming part of the Nova Corps, I guess, but I think it's unlikely as of Nova 5.

I don't think Nova is restarting the corps quite yet ... my guess would be either she is related to the big bad of Annihilation: Conquest -- or, a few Nova's were late getting to Xandar.

I've liked Nova a lot so far, but the second issue was a disappointment in the fact that the cover made me believe we'd see a Nova vs. Iron Man battle, but the issue pretty much was Nova kissing Tony Stark's ass throughout. Nothing comics haven't been doing for decades, so you'd think I wouldn't be let down by now, but they still get me all the time.

It appears like the thunderbolts are coming to pickup diamondhead too. So the expected throwdown from issues 3 appears to be much less a throwdown and much more a meh.
Any Darkstalkers fans out there? Nova just got Midnight Blissed by Demitri as he turned him into a female before drinking his blood lol!

Only issue with that is Phylla's Quasar mini. Unless Annihilation Conquest's lead-ins are like the first Annihilation all of those could be happening simultaneously and then there's the matter of Phylla not being a blue-skinned Kree.

Woah woah, woah! Not knowing a little bit of trivia about one group of characters so as to have a quick dig at another is not 'Ignorance'. Anyway, I know the barest abou Nova and love the concept of Sinestro Corps - I'm just saying that with a fully-fledged Nova Corps they wouldn't stand a chance. After all, teir main weapon is fear - when a Nova stops being afraid, the only other resort is to fight, and then their Rings un out of power after a few battles or so.

Nope, you are right she is a Centauran her name was Samaya(I feel like I'm writing a eulogy). Her difference being she had a big red mohawk and she was a deeper blue then your average Kree. But, I guess I'm still hopping so though.

I just finished reading Marvel's Nova #2 & just have to tell someone how frakkin' amazing I felt it was. As they were able to do in the mini last year, Abnett & Lanning have taken often under-used or mis-used characters & truly utilized their rich history with ACCURATE and compelling characterizations. The conversation, first, between Stark & Nova contrasting Iron Man's experience in the Civil War with Nova's time in the Annihilation wave was unbelievably good. Second, the exchange with Justice on the helicarrier was spot-on! Sean Chen's art was even better than the first issue, where it wasn't his best. Definitely a great follow-up to a good first issue, adding real layers onto the dynamic being created here with the last New Warrior left. Can't wait to see his confrontation with Speedball next issue, oh, wait, unfortunately - I mean Penance. Ugh.

The symbols on their uniforms as well as the starburst on their helmets designate their rank in the Nova Corps. Going by her uniform, this woman is a Nova Centurion, which is the highest rank.

I really liked Annihilation, both the series and the prequel minis...and so far Nova isn't disappointing.
before the ONE there was a little movie maybe you heard of it...the HIGHLANDER!

It just occured to me that a better title for this article would have been "THE MAN CALLED NOVA?!?"

The issue could be about a deceased member of the Nova Corps... Richard could be dealing with the particular fallout of her death. Her family, friends, the people she saved and protected. As somebody already remarked about the Issue #2 cover, everything is not always as it seems. Still, they'll need new Nova's at somepoint.
i hope rich rider gives it to her. she`s out of this world
gives it to her, indeed. * breathes heavily*
Well, my curiousity is peaked, I'll give them that. Hopefully if Nova is recreating the Corps already he'll end up keeping the largest chunk for himself. I rather like him being in the big leagues :)
Heh, hype for the book is always appreciated but I just enjoy this book as is. Hype is hopefully good for sales though. I'm loving Nova
Mad cover. I'd love for it to be Namorita but I'm going for some Kree lass. Namorita would be nice though.

Thing is its. not his choice to make.

Oh, no arguement, I'm just rattling off my preferences. Nova has a history of fluctuating power levels, I'd like to see it stay consistantly at the high end for awhile because, in space, with all those cosmic threats, he's going to need it.

Skottie Young didn't make her blue, she was like that since the 90s.
Uh, no, she wasn't. Yes, she did turn blue during the 90s, but she was changed back to her original appearance. That happened within the 75 issues of the first NW series. And she had her original appearance in Jay Faerber's relaunch (2nd series).
It was in an interview here on Newsarama that it was stated she was made blue again with no explanation given beyond Young liking that particular look (with stupid tattoos thrown on, again for no reason beyond it looking 'cool' to him).

Shouldn't this issue be a Conquest tie-in too?

pretty sure it is, i think the conquest tie-in starts with the 4th
I agree with whoever else says it, I know he couldn't have taken it, but I wish he could have kept all that power for himself. Tony Stark was salivating at the idea that he could get someone so powerful on his side. Still, it had to happen, and its not like he won't still be powerful. I wonder though, will the book as a whole now still focus on Rich, or will we be seeing storyline's for other nova corps?
And I agree, I think Chen is one of my favorite artists right now. He drew Iron Man spectacularly, and the t-bolts, and everything in general. My only question is, whats up with Nova's helmet. Sometimes it looks like its solid, other times he's holding it like its cloth. Whats up?
