When all else fails.. add Drakon and Deathstroke
This issue was abit of a ... well lets just say i hope Winick issent writing Green Arrow/Black Canary. And i must admit i like the whole 2days in the bedroom deal :P reminded me of the old days :P, but Black Canary was writen in a very weak way, Thats not the Dinah i know, thats the old dinah. This issue only lacked Dr.Light, Count Vertigo and Onomatopedia, and all the people that really want Ollie dead whould be having a party. I like how Brick and Merlyn was used to lure them into a trap where Deathstroke and Constantine Drakon was waiting.
But Winick should have read Gails run on BOP before writing her..
In the end this issue (and the Redhood arc) proves once anf for all that Speedy deservs her own series.. Shes like Robin only with boobs and dirty jokes! the last part alone is a good reson for her to get her own series!
Overall good copout issue (you must copout when your going from zero to Engadment ring in 2 issues.) But a REALLY! bad Black Canary issue, the star of this issue was speedy :D

Doesn't sound like quite the penultimate issue I was expecting/ I'm curious as to how far in advance Winick knew the book was getting axed; I'm afraid any lingering subplots won't be resolved or will be rushed. Still, one more issue to go, then Scott McDaniel's out of a job - for a while at least - and I'm out of one my top 10 reads....:(
Great issue. I think GA has been Judd's best book. I liked the interplay between GA & BC plus Mia & Conner helping out. Can't wait for next month. Also CBR has a nice article on Black Canary. She looks great for being 60!! I liked how the article noted she has been a successful heroine like Wonder Woman - she has her own ID separate from a male counterpart like Supergirl or Batgirl.

Sound like he's known for atleat a year or so..
you have to remember why they are canceling this book.. its shure as hell is not du to the sale figures :P
if there is any loose ends.. im shurew they will be tied up in the next book ..
Like Merlyn in Star City.. looks like he is the badguy in the Black Canary Miniseries
Please dear god somebody stop this book from being cancelled and mutated into some bastardised Arrow/Canary series.
Marriage doesn't work in comics! Everybody hates Clark/Lois, Pete/MJ, etc.
No good can come from this!

Ok, but there is a certain element of excitement that leaves the relationship when comic characters tie the knot.
You can't kill the the wives because it'd cause backlash, you can't divorce them because it ages them and because they're moral icons, etc.
It just writes ongoing characters into a corner.
I could almost accept the marriage if only it didnt come at the cost of a 75 issue series. Cancellation is so unneccessary.

i have generally given Winick slack on this title. i feel it's been by far his best superhero book. i've enjoyed nearly every issue of his run, and i generally don't like anything he writes.
but this one was just...ugh...for me. the whole 3-5 pages wasted telling us how much GA and BC like to hump each other...pretty ridiculous. Merlyn just getting away? pretty ridiculous. Connor having nothing to do but join in the action scenes while mia gets tons of air time? pretty ridiculous.
and I SWEAR TO GOD... if i have to read even ONE MORE TIME from Meltzer, Winick, or anybody else just how much the DCU's biggest _____-up Roy Harper deserves so badly to be on the JLA with all the capital-H Heroes, i am going to literally throw up. utterly RIDICULOUS. now we're explaining that Ollie did something he didn't have to do, which he had to know would probably end his mayoral career, which was serving his city even more than his vigilante crime-fighting, just so his estranged ward can get a chance to give himself a new name and pretend he's worth a crap by joining the JLA? i call B.S.

What the hell were they thinking when they took Black Canary away from Simone and gave them to Winnick.

Disagree. Marriages can work in comics. I like the marriages.

No good can come from this!I'm not crazy about the Pete/MJ marriage, because a big part of what I used to enjoy about the series was the back and forth, him travelling between MJ, Felicia, etc. Removing any possible romance from Peter's life (other than MJ) has helped make the franchise deathly-dull to me, and is one of the main reasons that Ultimate is the only Spidey book I read.
But the Clark/Lois marriage on the other hand, I like very much. Maybe partly because what it replaced (Lois trying to find out Superman's identity/prove Clark is Superman, etc, or the Clark/Lois/Lana triangle that never went anywhere) is something I never really enjoyed. Clark's Super-monastic existence was never that compelling to me.
I'm not that crazy about Ollie and Dinah getting married, but what the hell. Even in the worst case scenario, Ollie is probably the only super-hero that could eventually cheat on his wife, and not have it turn his character radioactively unusable. He's already cheated on her enough times in the past that I don't think it would turn fans against him permanently.
And where a Clark/Lois or Peter/MJ divorce would be completely unthinkable, Ollie and Dinah could probably pull it off if they had to.

so far...has the writer for the upcoming GA/BC book been announced yet?

no the writer hasnt been announced yet.
But if DC is going to let Canary be written lke this again now that she is back with Ollie, it wont go over good. This didnt feel like Dinah what-so-ever to me in this issue.
Now I have to back and read some old BOP issues...

Tell that to Carter and Shiera...
Or Katar and Shayera...
Or Barry and Iris...

Ok Ok, i just think tying down a cheating womaniser like Ollie is a huge mistake.

Won't disagree with you there. Never particularly cared for the Ollie/Dinah romance, myself.

Nope... and if you check out what he said at Wondercon it sounds like he is writing it ..
(he talked about an upcomming shado arc the day before they said the book was axed from issue 75, and there he said that neither he nor DC was done with Green arrow)

Ok, but there is a certain element of excitement that leaves the relationship when comic characters tie the knot.
Only if the sexual tension was the only thing going for the storyline. Is "Moonlighting" a far too dated example? If there's more going on with/between the characters than "They haven't kissed yet", there will be plenty more to do with them after they have.
You can't kill the the wives because it'd cause backlash, you can't divorce them because it ages them and because they're moral icons, etc.
It just writes ongoing characters into a corner.
You could...you know, write good stories with the characters being married. Or occasionally write stories where the marriage doesn't come up at all.
I mean, either you obsess on the "It's like being married to a policeman times a million" idea or you don't. If all the spouse does is complain that the hero(ine) is never there for them all the time, they come off as a shrew that people wouldn't mind seeing dropped like a hot rock (See MJ in Spider-Man 3).
If you write the spouse as a cipher, they will never be embraced by the readers. I wouldn't call Lois Lane a cipher. MJ...to a degree. Sue Storm, not at all, neither BlackCanary.
Reed and Sue have been married for years (both in comics time and real time) and they have had good times, bad times, and it's been interesting.
It's one of the reason I was so torn up about Ralph and Sue. They were one of the truly happily married married couples in comics, and breaking them up always seemed unfair.

God damn it!
I can't stand any more freakin Winick.
I can't forgive him for when he came onto the book and completely trashed Ollie and Dinah's relationship for a quick fumble with a soon-to-be-dead chick.
He tries to legitimise it with "but thats what happens in real life - people cheat". But a sodding superhero?!?!?!
