I could explain it, and take the time to illustrate why, but the best way, would be for you to see it too lol

"One of the greatest sci fi movies ever"? HAH!! :D :p :D

It was pretty good but only as a popcorn action flick in a sci-fi environment. Very entertaining but not much more really. That said, I agree it's a must-see for fun-loving guys everywhere. Now, the novel is another thing entirely. One of the classics. I simply love Heinlein. :D

I used to think the book was a classic, but with every re-read I find more and more about it that I dislike, and can no longer give it such high praise.

I thought that there were some topless scenes of her in the deleted scenes on the DVD. (Makes note to self to check DVD when he gets home.)

Weren't they all topless for the shower room scene?

Yeah, but Denise wasn't in that scene. She was a pilot and Rico was in the Mobile Infantry.

Well, looking at the website, it at least seems like they're doing something the movie didn't: put these dudes into some armor. Most of the armor I saw on the cover looked closer to Master Chief's armor than the ape-suits of the book, but there are a couple that look like they could pass for ape-suits.

I'd be more interested in a comic that had nothing to do with the movie, because I found the movie to be largely silly. Friend of mine was telling me about the time he saw this flick with his dad. Now, his dad wasn't a particularly savvy sci-fi dude, but was all about the common sense. Halfway through the movie, after the heroes first encounter the bugs, he said, "But we got tanks now...!"

And the complaints was very simple and very basic. He had no idea that the original story encased these soldiers in armor fitted out with lasers and tactical nukes. But he did know that sending a bunch of melrose place pretty-boys and -girls into close combat against an inherently superior foe without armored support (in the context of say, an M1 Abrams, for example) was stupid. I knew beforeheand they didn't have the budget after the Bug FX to do suits. But at the same time, it seemed like humans in the future had lost the ability to build tanks.

That idea made more sense the first time around, when it was called "Aliens."

The best part about the movie was Dina Meyer showing some skin.

The best part about the book was the coming of age story, and the fact that even with their armor systems...they weren't winning...

Well the movie wasn't even originally going ot be Starship Troopers. It was titled Bug Hunt and then someone mentioned some similarities. ANd they changed it. However the director didnt care for the book. Saying he never finished it and found it boring and depressing. And just for some extra info, I just read they are making a 3rd part. With Caper Vandeen(?) reprising his role.

Very much agreed. That's one of the first things that made me say "WTF!!" the first time I saw the movie. That's why, in a way, I like the animated series more than the movie. It was closer to the book even if it wasn't a whole lot. They made more use of armors and heavy equipment. And the development of the characters was more smooth. Another thing I didn't like in the movie compared to the book and the cartoon was how Rico was promoted to lieutenant.

Hi guys,

The story follows the TV series and the book more than the movie (but then the TV series kinda followed the movie so it all gets a bit confused...)

As for EXO-Suits - we had a specific timeline for them - at the beginning they don't have them, have just met the bugs and the Skinnies are a twinkle in their mom's eyes. But by the end of book three (and the ongoing, coming out later this month) EXO suits are now in beta testing - both Grizzly and Ape designs.

Oh yes.

Yeah, I looked there after making my post. Clearly I was mistaken, but I am sure the onscreen tvguide called it Starship Troopers 3, ah well, the bit I saw was some troops trapped in a warehouse type place, with a trooper who I think had killed some of his former comrades, with the bugs closing or bombarding their position, whatever it was, it was complete crap.

Y'know, I don't recall enough about the second movie to figure out if we saw the same thing or if you saw something different. And after the blonde chick got naked, the whole thing was a blur anyway...

Definitely sounds like the second movie. They are in a bunker and theres a new bug that gets inside of a persona nd takes them over. Thats what you get for direct-to-dvd.

I loved the first movie. The second movie was GOD AWFUL.

I'm a bigger fan of the CGI series though. I hate the way they ended
and then tried to claim that that was how it was supposed to end.
Rubbish. Just admit you ran out of money!!

In an odd twist, I had just bought the first TPB, when I came to Newsarama and read that Starship Troopers was going to be here online.

I have read the book, seen both movies and own the animated series. The book is pretty amazing and I thought the animated series was great. The movies? Well, the first one had its ups and downs...the second...well...mama always said if you didn't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all, so I will pass.

I look forward to getting the other TPBs when they come out. The story in the first one was solid and I thought the art was good too.

Thanks Phil!

If you don't want to wait until the next arc hits here, the second TPB - Dead Man's Hand - comes out in June!

And finally Damaged Justice, book 3 in the series is back on track with #2 out this week. Personally? I think the end is one of the best things I've written. Utter gung ho and glory. :-)
