According to Scipio (http://absorbascon.blogspot.com/2007/03/50-reasons-to-buy-aquaman-50.html), Topo and Tempest make a return. Plus the reveal of Topo's full name!
Also, really bitchin' poster by the Dodson's. One of the few pieces I've liked by them, and the awesomeness makes it a must buy.

I love the poster and apparently those mermaids love Arthur. Too bad Aquaman still looks like Davy Jones otherwise he could get in on the action too.

So, Im planning on jumping in on Aquaman with #50. So anyone wanna do me a favor and tell me something about Topo? All I could find on the internet was a disambguation page on Wikipedia that says:
# Topo, an octopus featured in several 1950s Aquaman adventures.
Tempest is aqualad all grown up and magicky right?

Tempest is Aqualad & is married to Dolphin.
Topo was Aquaman's "Krypto".

I thought Arthur Curry was M.I.A.?

Arthur Curry is the new Aquaman & Orin is the "old" Aquaman - now known as the dweller.

I'd love it if Orin came back as the true Aquaman and Arthur became the new Aqualad-type guy, but it has to be done in an amazing 12-14 part epic, not some sort of mamby pamby sixer.

I just hope they stick with Arthur being the new Aquaman for awhile.

What sense does that make? Hasnt Arthur Curry always been Aquaman?

This is a NEW Arthur Curry. He's young and hep and doesn't have any of the baggage (read: history) of the old Aquaman, so you'll like him better.
Kinda like how the Kent Nelson in the new Dr. Fate is a NEW Kent Nelson, one that you never even knew existed but now he's suddenly important enough to take the Helmet on.
Hey, I don't make it up, I just report it.

No, we pretty much need a Bobby Ewing moment. Mera needs to go to the bathroom and Aquaman comes out of the shower and she realizes it was all a dream.
Or a hoax, or an imaginary story, I don't care which.
We could use one in Flash too.

Aquaman and Hawkman are the two most confusing characters in fiction. It's hard to get into either because it seems they just keeping throwing origins, powers, etc. at them hoping something will stick.

Hey, I don't make it up, I just report it. "Reporting"? Don't you mean omitting key facts and tainting them with your opinion?:)

We could use one in Flash too. Why don't you do that when you become the head editor of DC.
Get back to us when that happens.

what did he say that wasn't true? this is INDEED a Kent Nelson we've never seen before, that we did in fact never knew existed, yet now as of issue 1 of the new fate series, he's obviously "suddenly important enough to take the Helmet on".
that's all he said. unclench a little...

It's more like Buffy, when Dawn appeared out of nowhere, and everybody said, "Well of course Buffy always had a kid sister...now."

Where was it suggested that he takes the helmet solely because of his "importance"? Have you considered the idea that it lands on his lap and is forced on him because of his connection to the first Kent Nelson?

I picked up this book on a whim because of the beautiful cover.
And that's just about the only good thing I can say about it (well, other than McManus' art is also quite good). As a non-Aquaman reader, I just didn't appreciate it. Which is sad considering this has all the making of a jump-on point.
I wrote a review (http://www.comixfan.com/xfan/forums/showthread.php?t=41693) of this issue. Damn, I wanted to give it a higher rating because I spent more bucks on this double-sized issue. hehehe
Anyway, from what I read in this thread...Aquaman's history has been retconned? And this Topo guy is actually an old character?
