Dark Horse Comics has announced that Whedon’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer #1, the debut of the “unfilmed” 8th season of Whedon’s signature creation, has sold out immediately at the retailer level, and that a they are “rushing” back to press for a new printing, with a variant cover.

Retailers are also reporting brisk sales and high interest in the new series.

The new printing is expected in stores on March 28th.

For Newsarama/Best Shots' review of the issue, click right here.

Fans of Whedon will get another chance to show their love to the Astonishing X-Men writer when Marvel’s Runaways #25, the debut issue of Whedon and artist Michael Ryan’s six-issue run on that title appears in stores on April 4th (which mean retailers have until close of business Thursday to finalize their orders).

Speaking of which, Marvel has provided Newsarama with a lettered preview of that issue…

Awesome news if you're a BUFFY fan. The new series got some column space in Entertainment Weekly and on AICN, so I'm not surprised to see such a fast sellout. Hopefully, it will even get more than a few BUFFY fans who don't normally read comics hooked on the medium.

And after reading the letter column in issue #1 about Buffy teaming up with other DH characters, is anyone else hoping to see a BUFFY/HELLBOY one-shot? I know I'd buy it, especially if Whedon or Mignola writes it.

Missing Preview Page

I have to say I'm underwhelmed with those pages. The dialogue is kind of stiff. It's usually Whedon's strength so I'm hoping I'm wrong.

But who are they meeting? My current guess is Mephisto, but its not easy to tell.

Judging by last issue's ending?

Tony Stark.

I still think Ryan was a nice choice for the art and I'm still not sure about Whedon and how the changes in the creative team will affect sales. "That's sexist." Heh... :D Good luck, guys. :)

Saw those lettered previews about a month ago. Which makes me wonder, how I missed that massive spoiler about cap's death in one of the pages. Hmm. Guess im lame.

I think the dialogues great, and the only awkward portion is Molly's stuff line. I do think that the next page will make that line make more sense.

Wow that Runaways preview is pretty darn terrible. The dialogue seems forced, Chase is suddenly over his manic depressive state of mourning over Gerts passing and not being able to bring her back and is lusting over She Hulk. Molly's talking about boobs.

The art isn't looking so hot here either, Chase is looking pretty ugly, Xavin male form looks IDENTICAL to how he drew David/Prodigy from New X-Men...

This does not bode well...

Guggenheim??? a god? i don't know about that...

ok, ok, ok, as usual I might have gotten a little carried away, but to be honest what Guggenheim did with Wolverine (a comic I just haven´t enjoyed in a looooooooooong time) was awesome!

And Blade is better than ever before right about now.

The greatest thing of the year for me in comics would be if Guggenheim would write Amazing Spider-Man after JMS leaves. Making washed up characters top-notch again seems to be the speciality of Mr. Guggenheim.

Your legion of emoticons can rest easy, because either way, he's only on for six issues.
I'm personally looking forward to seeing a different take on the kids. Should prove interesting, and I know Joss is capable of knocking it out of the park.

BtVS has a huge fan following. I myself is one of the them and it was so sad to see the series ended. The tv show fans now have their BtVS fix! Too bad, it's a monthly and not a weekly! LOL :p :D Wow, Joss Whedon now rules another medium. Go Joss!

Joss Whedon now rules another medium. You want Joss to go, not Josh.

Sorry. Pet peeve.

Anyway, I think the preview looks great... I think there is a lot of trepidation because BKV did a legendary job. A hard act for anyone - even Joss Whedon - to follow.

My guess is the shadow will belong to one of the anti-regs. Aren't they considered villains now, hence Molly's use of the word "evil"? (She's young and "stuff.")

To counter one metaphor, Whedon is just as capable of grounding into a double play (Taking something great and ruining it). In my personal opinion, Astonishing X-Men has, since the great first arc, ranged from mediocre to outright garbage. I've looked to Whedon's run with great trepidation.

That being said, I liked these preview pages. While, it didn't quite live up Vaughan, it's only a handful of pages in a six issue arc. The characters, for the most part, read like they have for the last 44 issues. I would like to see some explanation as to the lapse in Chase's moodiness, though he does read like the Chase I remember from issue one on. Not to say I liked him as moody, but we weren't really meant to, and it was logical. I'm moody after breaking up with someone I love and care about, I can't imagine how much of a moper I'd be if I had a girlfriend die on me.

I will give it a chance, at the least, and this preview is much better than my worst case scenario, especially considering I can't seem to stand Whedon past six issues (Where he's jumping off...just thought of something, anyone know when JMS' last Spider-Man story is?). I'm more concerned with who'll be taking over after him. I'd love to see Kirkman give it a shot.

I've only read vol. 1 and the first half of vol. 2, while I wait for the rest to be collected. But this looks pretty good. It is going to take me a while to adjust to Alphona's absence, but I am going to really try hard to not constantly judge Ryan's work against Alphona's.

And I always have faith in Joss. Even with things like the new Buffy book, where I am REALLY trroubled by it being a continuation of the series, with all that implies, it was an entertaining read.

So, I'm looking forward to this, though I'll have to wait to get the third HC before I can read it. :(

This preview just confirms that Michael Ryan is an artist to look out for. He can draw it all and I am a big fan of his inspirational work.

Get ready for some positive...Runaways looks friggin' awesome! I liked the dialogue. I was getting an old school Buffy wave of deja vu. Which I can also get monthly in an actual Buffy comic written by Joss. Not all is gloom and doom. :p

It's actually more of the opposite fanboy reaction. Nerdy giddiness.:)

Joss' Astonishing isn't bad, per se, but I think it's fallen under a case of not quite living up to my expectations. I just didn't see him going in the direction he went in and his dialogue seems a little weaker than usual. My theory: Writing the X-Men, after being a life long fan, is hard to do. I imagine it's almost intimidating, no matter who you are.

But then again, his Kitty Pride is wonderful and her moment with Pete where she, um, phased was a classic X-Men moment. And a great Joss moment, too.

I think it's funny that everyone is worried about Joss Whedon's run on Runaways. You know how many really horrible writers are out their? Well one of them might be taking over Runaways after Joss and then we can all just say goodbye to the Runaways comic forever.
