Press Release

Avatar Press' first installment of the new series by Garth Ennis, The Chronicles of Wormwood #1, released in late January, is sold out. The creator of industry favorites like Preacher, and more recently The Boys, continues his rule over the press as the standard and Visions of Hell covers, both by series artist Jacen Burrows, were hastily consumed off the shelves of local retailers.

Featuring the always provocative imagination and razor-sharp dialogue of Garth Ennis, The Chronicles of Wormwood stars the anti-Christ Danny Wormwood, as well as his father Satan, Joan of Arc, and a mentally-challenged Jesus Christ who has not followed through on his Second Coming. The first issue foretells the coming Armageddon, but many of the key players, including Pope Jacko, are not doing their part to prevent (or begin) the End of Times.

"No one in comics has been able to dissect religious themes as cleverly and humorously as Garth," notes artist Jacen Burrows on the popularity of Wormwood and Garth Ennis' writing. "But at its core, Wormwood is really a book about friendship and sacrifice and he is so good at creating multifaceted characters that live and breathe that you can't help but care about the journey they have before them."

The Chronicles of Wormwood is quickly gaining more and more praise from fans and industry critics, and is looking like it may be the sleeper smash of 2007. It was also the first, featured new-release of a much anticipated list of brand-new series coming out this year through Avatar Press. As for future installments of Wormwood Burrows says, "Every issue takes it up a notch. The book gets funnier, darker, and more intense, leading to one of the best endings I've read in a long time. It's really a fantastic read, and response from fans has been terrific."

Double-check with your local retailer to see if they posses any extra copies of issue #1. And while waiting for this month's installment of The Chronicles of Wormwood, check out past series by Ennis published through Avatar Press, such as the TPB of 303 which hits the shelves at your local comic shop this week.

Heh...had to edit that, eh? :)

Seriously, I was worried that it HAD come out at your shop already...because smaller companies sometimes have their books get screwed up distribution. I know Graham Cracker's Comics (a large chain in Illinois) is getting it this Wednesday and I know it hasn't been at MacGuffin: A Graphic Novel Shop (http://www.macguffincomics.com) yet...but I've seen books that have already been officially released go through just that delay at both shops before.

And here I was all excited because I thought this had something to do with the other Wormwood book. Y'know the one from IDW!

Ah well disappointment is a fact of life.

Just another great book by Ennis. I think you will like this book if you liked Preacher.
