..from fizzling and that is Timothy Hunter.
Dc's Age of Magic currently has the ShadowPact for it's only compass on the arcane in the DCU.
A character like Timothy Hunter (opener, magus) brings along some pretty nice stories and characters, which include the Faeries, Succubi and a heck of a coming of age story.
Take the character from the end of the Ney Rieber Books of Magic, torpedo the Names of Magic series and send him to America to visit with Zatanna or road trip to Black Alice's town.
The point is that the new 'Age of Magic' needs a context in which to exist.
Currently it's doing contextual duties in the low rated Shadow as a foil for all these mystical and supernatural characters. The sad thing is mystical and supernatural does not make magic. That's just an occult aspect wrapped in a pseudo superhero veneer. What I want and I hope other people do too, is a genre story told in this 'New Age of Magic age' aspect that actually stands on it's own in the context of a good superhero story or teen hero story or whatever.
Look Buffy was a chick with super powers and she existed in an age of Magic. No one judged the series on it's 'magic-ness' but rather on the merits of its story lines and characters.
Dc's NEW AGE need it's Buffy and Timothy Hunter is your man.

Timothy Hunter? Whozzat?
...the only Timothy I know (from the DCU) is Timothy Drake, and as for Hunter it is Rip Hunter. :p

Har-dee har har B/L.
You know well Tim Hunter is the star of Books of Magic comic book published by the Vertigo Line.
Sooooo having a smarmy brit teen with magical abilities running around in the DCU can't be that bad of an idea....

The sad part, if they (re)introduced a bespectacled teenager who suddenly discovered one day that he was to be the most powerful wizard in the world, people would scream rip-off.
I for one am nonplussed that he hasn't taken a higher place in the DC magic hierarchy.

well theyve got dr fate coming and theyre establishing the magical aspect of the DCU in Trials of Shazam, not to mention Klarion is walking around with his cat, i think the DCU is doing fine with their magical characters.

Yup, as I specified in my post 'from the DCU'. That means no Vertigo (Hunter) or Wildstorm (The Doctor). ;)

Well it was an idea. The new Magic Age needs a big kick in the pants and write now I'm not feeling anything along the lines of a Countdown or a World War Hulk, WW3 sort of shake up that could make the Magic Age cool. Just a bunch of weirdo's including a chimp with a deerstalker and a couple of old mascara'd fogeys waving their fingers and fondling entrails. Look, read John Boltons and Neil Gaimans Book of Magic series and the First 3 trade of John Ney Rieber's Books of Magic ongoing to know what a series dealing with magic should FEEL like.

Oops my bad. Apologies for cross posting. Although I am talking about Tim Hunter as a character to be introduced into the DCU.
Apologies, once again.

so basically what youre saying is that you want an event that deals with the magic in the DCU. also, you have to remember, this is super hero magic. theres a big difference in storytelling between vertigo and DC

DC never did a great job of defining which of the corporate owned Vertigo properties are actually in the DCU and which parts of their stories were in the DCU.
I was always under the impression that the Vertigo stuff was separate, or at least autonomous, of the regular DCU.
Animal Man definately was under MOrrison. The white haired cult leader apparently was in there as well as evidenced by the Peter David Aquaman issue. But the guy in 52 is a superhero again.
Black Orchid...no idea.
Hellblazer the book was nver in the DCU (and this was made pretty explicit throughout the book's run) but there is a DCU version of John Constantine. The relationshoip between the two is questionable.
Zatanna moves back and forth between these worlds but soemtimes seems to be two different versions of the same person.
Tim Hunter...exists in the DCU but I'm not so sure about his later stories.
Doom Patrol was DCU under MOrrison. Pollack's run referenced the Justice LEague. But the Byrne title retconned all of that. Apparently it used to be in the DCU but it isn't anymore.
Scarab was a Vertigo title but he appeared in JSA as well.

It seems to me Swamp Thing was bandied about as needing to be brought back to the DCU. If he brings Constantine with him...
And now that Wolfman's writing a regular title again, bring back the Night Force!!
I love Zatanna, she needs to be seen as more powerful than she's been written.
It's like the magic was wiped out in Swamp Thing #50, and never recovered.
Crisis on Magic Earth, that's what we need.
Cheers,

They already did that during the 90s and it failed spectacularly.

speaking of good vertigo characters that would probably be written bad in the DC, whatever happened to kid eternity, i remember he was with the titans and then...nothing.

Except for Harry Potter, I see no reaosn why not. I think Hunter, if done right, could make the magic world a much more interesting place.

No I can't, the 90s version was cancelled because Mike Carlin didn't like the idea of old foggies running around in tights and of course the Roy Thomas helmed All-Star Squadron was only cancelled after 60+ issues so really the idea of the mysterymen of ww2 fighting evil has proven to be more financially feasible than Night Force, both of which were cancelled due to low sales.

No way.
Constantine stays in vertigo. He was never really a DCU character. He'd appear like twice a year (so once a year more then he already does) and ti would destroy the closest thing to an isntitution that Vertigo has.

Yes, you CAN say it because the JSA was brought back *twice* in the 90s before the Goyer/Robinson/Johns take on the team, and it was canceled twice because of low sales. Nobody gave a s<klj>hit about the JSA before then because they were saddled with bad stories with no direction, although Mike Parobeck's art was peachy.
Mike Carlin may not have liked the JSA, but the pitiful sales figures spoke form themselves. And All-Star Squadron was an early 80s creation, long before the 90s revival(s).

Mike Carlin may not have liked the JSA, but the pitiful sales figures spoke form themselves. The writer onboard disagrees with the assertion of sales and of course you would have proof that he was wrong in regards to that matter?

No comic gets cancelled if sales warrant its continuation. There's nothing subjective there, thats BUSINESS. End of story.

Then said editor would be dropped faster than something you'd drop super-fast. No significant moneymaker gets dropped because somebody doesn't like it UNLESS it's violating some company-wide moral/ethical standards. Which, let's face it, the crappy early 90s JSA series' weren't doing. They were about as subversive and envelope-pushing as a Jay Leno monologue.
