I remember reading somewhere about a new reality, with new origins and such. Can someone explain this? Perhaps give some examples of what has changed?

it's basically a streamlined version of the current DCU. They just say that a lot of old contridictions were "time hicups" from the crisis/super-boy prime, and we all move on. Since we have 3 or 4 versions of super-man as a boy, this just updates it. Also things like "joe cool who batman caught for killing his parents" has been done, then undone and possibly redone.

it's basically a great way to roll a few contridictions under the rug and move on (for mea t least)

I don't understand. What are these contradictions you mentioned? How does it update Superman's origins?

If you picked up the first ten issues of 52, the backup story pretty much outlines the "current" history of the DCU. If you missed them, they're available at dc's web site under the 52 section.

For a little more info...Pre-Infinite Crisis, Superman did NOT have his powers as a young boy. He had them later on in life, more toward his teenage years. Pre-Crisis (1986) Superman had his powers as a boy and operated as Superboy in Smallville. It's not clear yet if Superman post-IC operated as Superboy, but he definitely had his powers at a much younger age.

As far as Batman catching Joe Chill, well I know they did it in the movie but I don't know if that story has made it into the DCU as a result of Infinite Crisis.

I believe Alex Luthor mentioned the re-emergence of Joe Chill as one of the changes on New Earth in IC #7.

In answer to the original poster: No. No one can explain it. No one really knows. We've had vague explanations that haven't really explained anything yet. What they've said more or less comes down to the idea that they'll let the writers decide what they want to use from ANY previous version...as they go along. That gives writers lots of options, but the flipside is that everything seems like it's up in the air. No one seems to want to -- or be able to -- answer most of people's questions about what has stayed and what has gone.

For example, months after IC has ended... we know Superman's origin is not the Man of Steel version anymore, we can also see it's not exactly Birthright, either. But what is it? Who knows? Maybe like Birthright with small differences? We're still waiting.

One good example is Wonder Woman's origin.

Pre-crisis she was a founding member of the JLA. Post-crisis she didn't appear in Man's world until Batman and Superman had been operating for at least a few years. So t sounds like they took her updated, post-crisis origin and simply moved the timeframe back 5-6 years in the new reality.

Sure, I can explain. Sometimes fans grow up to be writers. These writers, when given the opportunity, will inevitably transform any comic they write into a recreation of something they read when they were 14. This way, we get exciting stories about Hal Jordan and Earth 2 Superman.

The explanation is this: if you or another writer likes a particular pre-Crisis or post-Crisis aspect of a character or wants a new aspect altogether, then it's okay.

Oh, and deadlines no longer exist, especially if you've ever written for television or directed Superman.
