I was just re-reading my "Greatest Batman stories ever told" and I was wondering: Is there any Trades collecting the early Batman golden age stories i.e the original mad monk and that era. Also the 70's stories era, i.e. " The Joker's 5 way revenge"?
Thanks guys

There are a number of Batman's Greatest TPs that focus on particular decades/eras: like "Batman in the 70s; Batman in the 40s; etc. I believe that this are all available through Diamond's backlist and they are definitely available on Amazon.
As to which stories are in each volume, I don't know for sure, but I have a couple of them and they are a nice mix of well-known and more obscure stories.
Hope that helps.

No problem. Also, if you haven't already, I would pick up "Batman: Strange Apparitians" (that could be spelled wrong!) by Steve Engleheart and Marshall Rogers. From the early-80s - one of the best runs on Detective Comics ever.

Do you know if the Showcase editions are going to take it up to the 70s? I think they're in the 60s right now.

You can also buy Batman Archives (which reprints Detective) or Dark Knight Archives (which reprints Batman). A cheap color trade has also been released called Batman Chronicles. This reprints Batman's stories in the order of publication. I'm not certain how many stories are in the 1st volume, but it's well over 200 pages I believe (not nearly as big as the Showcase editions, though).

There's also Batman Chronicles Volumes 1 and 2.

There was a GREAT collection many years ago called "Batman from the 30's to the 70's" (There was a Superman and Captain marvel one as well). Featured classic stories from each decade. Mostly black and white, first few pages in color. Worth seeking out on ebay or the like if you can get it cheap.

Almost everything's been covered, with the archives, Chronicles and decade-specific trades, and the absolutely essential Strange Apparitions. The other major one I'd add is Tales of the Demon, which reprints a bunch of great Ra's al Ghul stories from the '70s.

To get a lot of late 1930s / early 1940s material, you'd want to go the Archive route. Or wait a few years, and rest assured - they'll do Showcase volumes of that stuff eventually.
As someone else mentioned, the Batman in the 1940s is a nice 'Greatest Hits' collection. If you get that trade, you'd have about 20 classic stories from that era.
And to echo hunterjax, Strange Apparitions is definitive Batman. A few of those stories are included in the Greatest Stories Ever Told books too. But in the SA book it reads as one long, evolving story. Great stuff, just like all the Dennis O'Neil / Neal Adams stuff.
