Sorry if this has been dealt with elsewhere,

but does anyone know why on the cover of Batman Confidential #3 it reads "3 of 8."
(makes no sense from a story perspective since "rules of engagement" was supposed to be a 6-parter).

Typo / production fluke?
Making people panic to boost sales?
Cancellation confirmed at a con or somewhere?

My theories:

Typo
Now a limited series (pray it's not)
Rules of Engagement is now extended to 8 parts

I'm leaning more toward the first one.

Its not cancelled because Tony Bedard and Rags Morales are working on the next story.

I'm leaning more toward the first one.

That would be a pretty weird typo. You'd have to add a new font size and randomly decide its an eight issue series. My guess is that DC has seen the JLA and JSA Classified series consitantly fall in sales so they're converting Batman to a series of seperate minis. A few months after Rules of Engament ends they run the next story. Keeps things fresher and they can pick good times to publish it.

I like Rags. He seems like a smart man with a lot to say about comics. Very insightful read.

I, for one, am not. Batman Confidential has been painfully average. I am content with Detective and Batman...I don't need another Bats title.

Same here. Rags is average at best for me as an artist.

Dini is a fantastic writer and Detective alone is enough to make me a happy reader.

Regarding Batman itself, I preferred Ostrander and Mandrake's stuff to Morrison's.
