And no thread about it?

I never really enjoyed that version of the Joker but honestly, this episode was really fun. Anyone else see it on CN? Can't believe Harley's VA is Starfire/Ace.

What about Starfire?

The voice actor who played Starfire in Teen Titans and Ace in JL was the voice of Harley in the episode.

Not that Batman.. THE Batman. You know the series that tried to be different and yet here we are at the point where they had Paul Dini bring in Harley Quinn :p

With a themesong like that, Batman should be doing the Batusi while it plays.

That makes 2 shows where he voices the mayor of a city. He's getting typecasted...:D

It's ok. We'd all love it if the Bruce Timm series had never existed.

I really don't like the voice-acting. Batman and the gang sound all wrong, and the Joker is very strange. Half the time it's a decent impression of Mark Hamill, and the other time it's totally different.

Ummm no, no we wouldn't because we'd still meet the good Batman in both Justice League and Superman.

This thing is horrible. Batman/Bruce looks like Jackie Chan from Jackie Chan adventures (same art team)

Joker is just....wtf?!

If Bruce Timm had never made BTAS, I would still hate this thing.

Right. The Bruce Timm Batman. If there had never been superhero cartoons in the 90's, you'd like this show.

I am a superfan of the Timm-verse, and I think this show's OK. Not great, just ok.

Once again, no I wouldn't like this even if there weren't cartoons in the 90's. Hell the batman is worse than the short lived Avengers series. Yeah I said it.

see? Bill agrees with me and I think this may be a first. Usually when I see your posts before I post, we are on opposing sides of the argument.

The show is meant to be something of a throwback to the old '60s "new look" era of Batman without the overt camp of the TV show. It's why they spent so much time focusing on super-villians, specifically Joker, Penguin, Riddler and Catwoman, and tried to avoid any mobster type characters. It's also why they tried to reinvent the whole "crazy death-trap" thing early on in the series (no giant typewriters, though).

Anyway, I haven't seen the Harley episode because it doesn't air on Kids' WB until next week. This week was "Riddler's Revenge" in which Riddler tells Batman about the part he played in his origin (Riddler's origin, not Batman's). Though, I'm looking forward to the Harley one.

This show has actually gotten leaps and bounds better since the first two seasons. Just look at episodes like "Strange New World" or "A Matter of Family". It's not Batman: The Animated Series, but it also really isn't meant to be.

However, "A Matter of Family" is a great homage to B TAS with both Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill being in it.

True, but there were also some twists added. It was still an episode of The Batman more than anything. Just like how they have a Harley Quinn episode written by Paul Dini and it's still its own thing. One of the things that got people's attention before the fourth season was that it was going to get more "fanboy-friendly". However, there were still twists that made it different. I remember how they announced that they'd have a more "traditional" version of Clayface this season and everyone figured it would be Matt Hagen as a formerly good-looking movie actor again. Instead, we got Basil Karlo as a homely and untalented wannabe actor who steals his way to becoming Clayface.

I think one of the problems early on was that they set really tough restrictions on themselves for how they were going to be different from previous versions of Batman, so they didn't have a lot of room to maneuver. Thus, we ended up with lots of repetitive villian team-up episodes. However, after three seasons of already having established how different they are, they probably figured they have more room to flex their muscles.
