White martians came about basically because the first Martians had the nastiest sexual kink the universe has ever seen. Way back when intelligent life was first developing in the universe, a race called The Burning evolved on Mars. These guys were massively powerful telepaths (think J'onn times 100) and had a very unfortunate reproductive cycle. In order to reproduce, they had to feed off of the psychic chaos caused by burning a whole lotta stuff. So basically when one got a little frisky, they would go find a planet, burn an entire civilization to the ground, and create a new little Burnling. The Guardians on Oa figured that the universe couldn't take any more Martian lovin' and genetically altered the Burning so that getting their swerve on wasn't a genocidal event. They split the Martians into Greens and Whites, gave them males and females, and for good measure, made them vulnerable to fire to make sure they wouldn't revert. Its strongly implied that the Whites got the destructive tendancies of the Burning while the Greens got the creative tendancies.

White martians are bad news. All the same powers and weaknesses that J'onn has, but with a tendancy to view earthlings as meat toys.

Wouldn't it be neat if it turns out that the Martians storyline (Miss Martian and the Martian Manhunter) gets connected to the storyline involving the Guardians. They seem to have a lot of things on their plate and their power seems to be getting somewhat limited. What with the multiverse showing up again, the Monitors being around probably monitoring them too (when that's sort of their job, and their fault they exist at all), and what with the Lady Styx's minions being able to defeat Zamarons and probably guardians.

The blurred lines between Martian races (Jonn's being very... mean... lately) might be a sign of Guardian influence declining. Or their meddling in the past being retconned away by some time traveling event

Or maybe that suggestion was a boast of racial superiority.

My guess is that white martians, even if they have the same powers, probably know how to use them better offensively.

Also didn't just about all of the White Martians get killed by the Burning when J'onn became one during that story? Whatever happened to the evil half-martian/half-human offspring of the supposedly last (after the Burning) and now dead White Martian in Son of Vulcan?

Just a quick correction: The "burning" original martians didn't go from planet to planet, they were only on Mars. The whole reason the Guardians got involved when they did was because they thought the Martians were a few decades away from space travel, and didn't want them getting off planet.

that part i dont think they were selling them as stronger just less contained and more wild with there ablilites where jon is more contained and focused. jon (like superman) tends to hold back while white martians (like zod and bizzaro) tend not to

Honestly, I think you are probably right. Its probably something about being better trained in using those powers for war and having less inhibition about using it. Kind of like the difference between a college professor and a black belt.
