So I'm reading No Man's Land for the first time through and loving it. Please somebody tell me it ends as well as it begins....

For one thing, I'm only just past the Scarecrow arc and the crossover has done a better job at everything War Games tried to do a few years later. How could they get away with promoting War Games the way they did when it had all already happened? Maybe they didnt get away with it, i didnt read message boards yet when i was reading that...

Though NML did get a bit long n' draggy towards the end...

...even at its lowest it was way better than anything from War Games.

When you're done with NML, see if you can pick up the Rucka/Martinbrough run in Detective that followed it. I'm not sure how much of it was reprinted in TPBs, but it was one of my favorite Batman runs ever, and it followed up on a lot of things from NML.

I would say yeah it does. It was the last time the Joker was well written until December when Dini wrote him.

I don't think out of anyone, Zechs would call NML bad (or something even worse). ;)

...BATMAN #567!!

*whistles innocently*

NML was the first big Batman story I got into. Never got into Long Halloween or Year One until way after NML. I own a ton of NML issues (mostly Two-Face, Harley Quinn, Joker, Bane, and.. um.. Cassandra Cain Batgirl) appearances.

I loved the NML mostly because of the way they had Oracle narrate important events during it.Plus um.. it had my fav Two-Face moment when this girl sort of grabbed him by the throat later we find out she took something from with Tally Man screaming with Two-Face curled up like a baby, "Can someone PLEASE find this man a Silver Dollar!"

Though Batman #567 I hold near and dear next to my first appearances of Harley Quinn, Cyborg Superman, Deadpool, Cable, and Demogoblin :D

Yeah Zechs, reaaaaaaaaaaaalll innocent there. :p :D

Sigh. Compared to the crap that is today's Post-IC Earth (at least for Cassandra 'Batgirl' Cain), heck, even without that, those were really the golden days. :(

Yeah.. they truly where. It was the height of the Bat Family and the best time to enjoy Batman since almost every Rogue save for Riddler put in an appearance in NML. Plus I mean come on Batman vs.. Lex "Flippin" Luthor . What more do ya want? :p

Well, for a 'former' CW reader, I have all but these past memories to get me by.

Damnit. B/W Cass and Kitty-Kat, this thread's turned into a real downer. :(

Aw poor BatWolvie.. just reread Harley's first appearance to make you feel nice.. just not the final arc.. god that is so depressing but well written.

NML is awesome. It was the 52 of its day really, an epic saga that unfolded on a weekly basis. There were a couple of duds here and there-- the Hama-written issues in particular were disappointing-- but overall, the quality was almost overwhelming. "Endgame" is still one of the most intense superhero stories I've ever read. It really would have been a perfect end to the Joker too, if they'd had the balls to do him in permanently.

I wouldn't call that the BEST Two-Face moment. That was another portion of NML in which Two-Face and Harvey acted as prosecution and defense in the trial of Jim Gordon.

Yeah but honestly it still was a good end, "Why you'd shoot me in the kneecap? I'll be.. Oh wait.. like your daughter. I got it.. HAHAHAHAHAHA!! Good one!!" Was hellva creepy line by the Joker.

I know but that was my first Cassie Cain moment I loved. Personally best Two-Face moment was when he double crossed the cops and Penguin at the same time while also beating Batman.. and taking over half of Gotham City he did it all in one issue. :D

Yeah, if it were done today, it would be a twelve issue maxiseries...minimum.

Effing amazing.
This has made my weekend, seriously. NML is the way a crossover should be done.

Definitely a great moment, but that's what I meant. I looks like Gordon is showing restraint, but that little total bastard remark pushes him too far and he unloads the rest of the clip in the ____er's skull. Woulda been perfect.

I've always wanted to read this story, mostly out of curiosity. I remember hearing about it when it was coming out, but didn't get to read any of it. This thread is really making me want to check it out.

I think the only way to read it is with the trades, otherwise, if you're like me, you gotta go fishing through 3 or 4 boxes.

I've been keeping an eye out on Ebay for them...

Prolly my second fav or third fav batman storyline of all time. Without a doubt my fav Killer Croc appearance which is surprisingly written by Devin Grayson. The artwork throughout most of the issues is very good and some great writers including Chuck Dixon and Greg Rucka

That was my first experience seeing the Joker be a real nasty SOB in that issue. I mean the dude kidnapped every single baby born during NML. And then this..

You got that right.

Spoiler: MURDERED

Leslie: Murderer (AND fugitive)

BarbaraL: Tucked tail b/w her chair and wheeled away

Robin: Sent to Bludhaven

Batgirl: Look to Robin. Still, while Robin got brought back, Cass, well, FVCK whichever idiot at DC came up with that one...AND the one who implemented it.

Nightwing: Okay, that was just Devin Grayson and her crappy excuse for writing/storytelling.

Yeah Spoiler, Lesile, Nightwing, and Batgirl got royally screwed by War Games. The only one who came out better is Oracle but I guess that's Gail's gift turn crap idea into gold.. much like Geoff Johns was.. in turning the Cyborg Superman into bad ass super villain. :D
