Got the first 25 issues of Superm/Batman a little while ago and just finished them last night. Wow. That was an incredible run. So I was just wondering if Jeph Loeb plans on jumping back on after Mark Verheiden? Verheiden's story really picked up over the past two issues, so I'm not pining for his departure or anything just wondering.

Either way, what else of Loeb's would you recomend for a fan of his work on that title? I think that's the only thing I've read by him so far.

Loeb's not coming back anytime soon, if ever. He's Marvel exclusive.

Also, if you were a fan of his S/B work, check out his Superman run with Ed McGuiness. His stories were a lot of fun.

Seconded. Paired with Joe Kelly, he also churned out some of my favorite Joker lines of all time in Superman: Emperor Joker # 1 during that era.

Yeah, I don't see him coming back anytime soon. Between Marvel and his televison stuff, I think he's probably stretched to the limit.

By the way... hey there jimbo!! Long time, no see. :)

Some people will disagree, but Batman: Hush is great. Has a lot of Batman's villains in it, Batman travels a bit, and part of it involves him and Superman.

What's up. I usually get in a couple post a day from work. Guess we just don't click the same threads.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him sign an exclusive contract with DC once his contract with Marvel expires. He was Marvel exclusive, then DC exclusive and now Marvel exclusive again.

You're probably right, but he's barely even started his Marvel run. His Wolverine run just started and who knows when Ultimate 3 and 4 will come out.

Yeah, I'd expect him to be at Marvel for a good three years or so.

Superman/Batman is usually regarded as the worst stuff Loeb has ever done (although the reviews for Wolverine #50 weren't exactly stellar). Try Batman: Long Halloween and Superman: For All Seasons.

Actually, Superman/Batman after about issue #7 is regarded as the worst stuff Loeb has ever done. Everyone I've encountered has loved Public Enemies.

S/B Vol.2 and 3 were both great reads.

Sure they weren't deep, but that was the whole point of the book.Epic action packed stories with the World's Finest.

Calling it crap?Hell no.Loeb clearly wrote this book as a DCU free for all, nothing as deep and emotional as his earlier DC work which was better only because it had more emotional depth.

Actually, the trick to Jeph Loeb is keeping him to a limited number of issues. When writing an ongoing title with no definitive endpoint, his story ideas will become more and more retarded. I shudder to think what would have followed Absolute Power and the Maximums story if he had stayed, although I wouldn't have read it.

Still,Supergirl and Absolute Power from the S/B series were fun reads.

I agree with you, after that, delay, delay, then some stories lose it's luster and then the very end, I was like, what the f**k?!

Absolute Power and Vengeance where just plain confusing. Delays aside, they were crazy, illogical stories that seemed more suited for the comic books of the '50s than a monthly of today.

While I realize I'm in the minority, I actually loved the Supergirl arc. Shame her solo series has been utterly horrible (IMO, at least).

Hm, I had no idea that Supeman/Batman wasn't so well received. I can totally see why you guys didn't enjoy it, but I liked it for those very same reasons. It was just overblown, knock down drag out stories starring two of the most iconic characters in comicdom. In other words mindless fun.

I did like each arc a little less than the first. I wanted to get these after reading the free comic book day re-issue of #1, and that first arc was pretty freakin' fun. I also happen to think that the following arcs were fun, too. I mean Superman strangled Wonder Woman. What's not to like? And Turner' batman just looked incredible. All logic did kind of fall by the wayside, but the ride was so fun that I didn't think about that much.

If this is the worst stuff the guy has written i can't wait to get to the good stuff.:D

I chose to read Loeb's S/B stuff because I wanted a break from alot of the more serious toned stories and books out there.I just wanted to read something really loose and fun.

If you're looking for something like that, you will not be disappointed. But if you come in expecting another All Seasons or Long Halloween, you will be.

Well it was a top 5 selling DC comic book while Loeb was writing it, so the detractors are full of crud when it comes to Loeb's Superman/Batman. And yes, the sales figures are the only real indicator we have to measure how well a comic book is recieved overall by the fans.

One of the more ill-advised statements I've read for a while.

It may have sold well, you may have enjoyed it... that doesn't mean the opinions of others who thought it was diabolically bad are any more 'crud' than your own.

I think this book will be cancelled before Loeb's done being Marvel exclusive, so....no.

I know it was in the top for the first two arcs, but did the last confusing and late story arc really still pull top five numbers?

Hell yeah, those are AMAZING books! You can't go wrong buying those. Hush is good, but it pales in comparison to those 3 books.

As for Superman/Batman, I think it was a fun read especially Public Enemies and Absolute Power. As mentioned before, it's suppose to be an action blockbuster book.

Then I guess it would be best to read Hush first.:) I was planning on getting that one anyway, but Long Halloween looks interesting. I'll probably read them all eventually. Thanks everyone for the suggestions.

I find that the key to enjoying S/B is the trades; once all four were released, everything (or almost everything) falls into place in one reading.
