According to a report in today’s Variety by Michael Fleming, Fox is looking at a 2004 production start on Elektra, with Jennifer Garner reprising her role from Daredevil. The studio has named Stu Zicherman and Raven Metzner to write the script, and filiming will coincide with Garner’s hiatus from Alias.

According to Fleming, the screenwriters were hired thanks to the studio, production team, and Garner being impressed with their draft of Deathlok. The new film will be produced by Mark Steven Johnson, Gary Foster, and Marvel's Avi Arad, and will pick up shortly after the events in Daredevil, and will feature Elektra battling the Hand. Fleming reports that the film will draw heavily on Frank Miller’s storylines from Daredevil.

While he is producing, Johnson will not direct, as he is now attached to Ghost Rider. Johnson is expected to direct Daredevil 2, however.

I guess the best news here is that Johnson won't be directing Elektra...but I do wonder how good his take on Ghost Rider will be, and I'm doubting how good DD2 will be. Maybe I'm just a pessimist. But I'll be happy to pay to see Garner on the screen more...

Honestly, Elektra is one of those characters where, for me, it's more about whoever is writing and/or drawing her for me to give a damn. Otherwise, she's just another ninja/assassin type character. It also helps for her to have another character I'm much more interested in, involved in the story somehow. This is why I don't buy/read her solo monthly series, and why I'm not so sure how excited I am about this movie. However, I'll be willing to give it a try, since I liked DAREDEVIL and am intrigued by this notion of the screenwriters borrowing from much of the Frank Miller material :)

Yeah, I don't think Elektra is all that interesting, although that doesn't mean her movie will be bad.I wouldn't mind seeing a Bullseye rematch, but I doubt it would happen. Anyway, make the movie rated R like the blade movies, and you can definitely play on her assassin angle.

The producers made a HUGE mistake by not signing him for more than one movie. He was the only good thing about DD.

Well he PROBABLY won't go back to that role. You never know what someone will feel like doing, no matter how unlikely.

Not only have I never found Elektra the character interesting, but I thought Garner's acting was pretty poor in Daredevil, but at least then she didn't have to carry the film. I honestly cannot imagine the pain involved directing her as the lead. It might be even worse than getting a Hayden Christiansen/Natalie Portman romance.

And besides, without DD involved, the plot will probably center around her fighting ninjas for two hours.

I didn't care much for the DD movie (and I blame the director). He didn't get the best job out of Garner, and the tension between Kingpin and DD was next to nonexistant. Affleck is a capable actor, but was far too stiff in the role. I like the idea of an Electra movie, especially with Garner reprising the role, but where I fear for this is the whole assassin angle, that wasn't played up at all in the movie, and if they are going to go by Miller's stories (which is the best thing I've read about the whole thing) they are going to have to make her really vicious, which she wasn't in DD.

It is far too early for me to bitch and moan about the movie, since it is a year away from produciton, but hey, that's what we're supposed to do, isn't it?

Bring on the glory of Michael Collins! (Or Luther Manning. Whichever.)

Who the hell is Deathlok? Oh that's right, some generic, dull-as-drying-paint craptacular cyborg type best left anonymous. Good news about Elektra, though. Been one of my favorite characters since she was introduced. Looking forward to the movie and I hope they bring her closer to the comic book version this time. Sounds like they will. The Elektra in the DD movie was very very green.

Admittedly, DD was hit-and-miss, but I thought it was more the latter. Johnson had never made a film like that before; I think it's fair to say he learned a few things from the experience about making action films; most directors do make a few errors when trying new things. For his post-rookie outing, I'm sure DD2 will be great. And besides, it's not like DD was agonizingly bad, just lumpy in a few places.

It's not like us fans were handed another Batman & Robin, Steel, or Superman IV.

Deathlok was always an interesting character, but the problem with him was that some writers wanted to portray him as the character you described above, but Roger Stern used him masterfully in his run on Captain America, and the limited series that Jackson (Butch) Guice drew was fantastic (I think Dwayne McDuffie wrote it, but I'm not sure).

I'd rather see a Deathlok movie than DD2, but I really can't pass up a chance to see more or Garner as Elektra.
